iGaming Industry Continues to Thrive in the US
Despite hesitation from many US states to launch online casinos, those that have taken the plunge are reaping the benefits of a flourishing industry. A recent report has revealed that the seven states where iGaming is legal saw a significant increase in revenue, reaching $868.6 million in April alone, marking a 32.5% growth compared to the previous year.
Record-Breaking Growth in April
According to insights from Casino Reports, each state offering online gaming experienced a minimum growth of 25% year-on-year. The $868.6 million in revenue for April showcased an impressive rise of over $213 million, underscoring the rapid expansion of the iGaming sector.
While April’s revenue slightly dipped from the record-breaking $900 million achieved in March, Casino Reports remains optimistic about the industry’s trajectory in the coming months.
State-by-State Breakdown
With the exception of Michigan and New Jersey, the iGaming states collectively handled around $10.2 billion. Pennsylvania led the pack, accounting for approximately $7.5 billion of the total handle, with Connecticut following closely behind at over $1.6 billion.
Notably, taxable operator revenue hit $787.9 million in April, resulting in $169.3 million in taxes, marking a $43.9 million increase from the previous year. It’s worth noting that this figure does not include local taxes and tribal disbursements.
Rising Stars: Pennsylvania and Connecticut
Pennsylvania emerged as the top online casino state, boasting $282.8 million in iGaming revenue. Meanwhile, Connecticut saw stiff competition between FanDuel and DraftKings, resulting in a 38.3% year-on-year increase to $31.6 million in gross revenue.
Michigan and New Jersey also reported impressive revenue figures, reaching $248.1 million and $235.2 million, respectively.
Delaware and Rhode Island on the Rise
Delaware and Rhode Island experienced notable growth in revenue, with BetRivers in Delaware seeing a nearly twofold increase to $9.9 million in gross revenue. Rhode Island’s sole iGaming provider, Bally’s, saw its revenue almost triple to $9.9 million, showcasing the industry’s promising future.
