This year’s much-anticipated Super Bowl is set to draw sports enthusiasts from all corners of the country to Louisiana. While Las Vegas won’t be the host city for this year’s event, many sports fans are considering heading to the gambling mecca of the world instead of attending the game in person. Assistant professor Amanda Bellarmino from UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hospitality, in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, made this prediction.
Bellarmino highlighted that numerous visitors to Las Vegas might opt to come to the city rather than traveling to Louisiana for the Super Bowl due to Sin City’s unmatched ability to offer top-notch viewing experiences and hospitality. She mentioned, “For years, the Super Bowl has been a busy time because it allowed fans to wager on the game when there were limited markets with legalized sports betting.”
Although Bellarmino acknowledged the widespread expansion of sports betting, she emphasized that many people still choose Las Vegas for major sports events like the Super Bowl and March Madness due to its unparalleled capacity to create vibrant viewing parties.
While this year’s Super Bowl figures may not match those of the previous year when Las Vegas hosted the event, Bellarmino projected an increase compared to 2022 and 2023.
American Gaming Association Predicts Record Betting Numbers
The American Gaming Association recently estimated a staggering $1.39 billion in bets to be placed on Super Bowl LIX. Bill Miller, the Association’s president and CEO, expressed, “No single event brings together sports fans like the Super Bowl, and that enthusiasm extends to sports betting, with this year’s record-breaking legal handle reflecting its broad appeal.”
Hotel Room Rates Decrease Significantly Year-over-Year
Leading up to the upcoming Super Bowl, the Las Vegas Review-Journal conducted an analysis of hotel room rates throughout Sin City. The survey found that the average room rate for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before the event stood at $157.75 per night.
This year’s average room rate was over $100 cheaper compared to the rates in 2024. In contrast, during the previous year when Las Vegas hosted Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium, the average nightly room rates the week prior to the game were $288.82.
Despite a six-month decline in revenue on the Las Vegas Strip, Barry Jonas, an analyst at Truist Securities, remained optimistic. He pointed out the resilience of hotel and casino operators despite the revenue downturn over several months.
Moreover, tourist visits to Sin City reached 41.6 million in 2024, showing a 2.1% increase. This uptick may indicate further growth in the gaming and entertainment sectors.
