The National Football League Partners with ICRG to Advance Responsible Gaming Research
The National Football League (NFL) has recently announced a partnership with the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG), pledging a generous sum of $600,000 to support research aimed at promoting responsible gaming and understanding gambling behaviors.
Focus on Responsible Gaming
The NFL’s donation, facilitated through the NFL Foundation, highlights the league’s commitment to addressing problem gambling and providing support to individuals at risk of developing gambling-related issues. The ICRG, a renowned research institution, will utilize the funds to delve into the complexities of gambling addiction, prevalence rates, risk factors, and the behavioral patterns of players, particularly college athletes and students.
Commenting on the collaboration, NFL Senior Vice President of Social Responsibility, Anna Isaacson, emphasized the importance of advancing research to drive effective solutions and fill the existing knowledge gaps in understanding gambling behaviors.

Focus on College Students
Recent studies have shown that college students are particularly vulnerable to developing gambling addiction, especially with the rapid expansion of the sports wagering market and the proliferation of betting advertisements targeting this demographic.
This initiative is not the first time the NFL has contributed to organizations dedicated to combating problem gambling. In 2024, the league donated $6.4 million to the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), which operates a national helpline for individuals seeking help with gambling-related issues.
Addressing Problem Gambling
Efforts to address problem gambling have expanded beyond providing support services to understanding the underlying motivations behind addictive behaviors.
