New Jersey Gaming Industry Shows Growth in iGaming Despite Decline in Traditional Casino Gaming
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement recently released a report detailing the financial performance of the state’s gaming industry in March. The data revealed that iGaming continues to outperform traditional casino gaming, defying the state’s reputation as a casino hub.
Total Gaming Revenue Sees Modest Increase
In March 2025, the total gaming revenue generated by New Jersey’s casinos, racetracks, and their partners reached $546.1 million. This marked a 3.7% increase from the previous year, demonstrating the ongoing strength of the New Jersey gaming sector. Year-to-date, the total gaming revenue stood at $1.5 billion, showing a 2.5% growth compared to the prior year.
During March, New Jersey’s gambling operators paid $59.8 million in taxes, bringing the year-to-date total gross revenue taxes to $175.2 million.
Casinos Report Mixed Results
The casino win for Atlantic City’s nine casino hotels was $230.9 million in March 2025, reflecting a 3.7% decrease from the previous year. Year-to-date, the casino win dropped by 1.8% to $644.4 million.
The Borgata and Hard Rock led the sector with $58.4 million and $44.5 million in March casino wins, and year-to-date total wins of $168.6 million and $124.4 million, respectively. Ocean Casino Resort took the third spot with $34.7 million in March casino win and $102 million in year-to-date total casino win.
iGaming Continues to Thrive
While traditional casino gaming experienced declines, iGaming saw significant growth. New Jersey’s casinos and their partners reported $243.9 million in internet casino win for March 2025, a remarkable 23.7% increase from the previous year. Year-to-date, internet gaming win rose by 19.6% to $673.3 million.
Leading the pack in March were Golden Nugget, Borgata, and Resorts World, with total internet gaming wins of $74.5 million, $58.1 million, and $56.5 million, respectively. Their year-to-date results were $205 million, $164.5 million, and $155.4 million, respectively.
Sports Betting Sees Decline
On the other hand, sports betting gross revenue in March decreased by 20.5% year-on-year, totaling $71.3 million. Year-to-date, sports wagering gross revenue dropped by 18.67% to $267.1 million.
The New Meadowlands racetrack emerged as the top performer in sports betting, with $23.4 million in monthly online sports wagering gross revenue and $110.4 million in year-to-date online sports wagering revenue.
Despite challenges faced by the traditional casino gaming sector, the overall gaming industry in New Jersey continues to show resilience and adaptability, with iGaming leading the way in revenue growth.
