IBIA Reports Slight Increase in Suspicious Matches in Q1 2025
The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has recently released its latest industry report, revealing a slight uptick in the number of suspicious matches in the first quarter of 2025. The organization reported a total of 63 alerts of suspicious betting activities to relevant authorities during this period.
Details of the Increase
The 63 alerts reported by IBIA in Q1 2025 represent an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. However, there was a 3% decrease in alerts compared to the previous quarter. In Q1 2024, IBIA reported 57 alerts, while in Q4 2024, the number rose to 65.
IBIA gathers data from its 80+ members, who operate more than 140 sports betting brands worldwide, with an annual turnover of over $300 billion.
Leading Sports in Suspicious Alerts
The report highlighted that soccer and tennis continued to dominate in terms of alerts, accounting for 40 of the total alerts in Q1 2025, a 14% increase from the previous quarter. On the other hand, alerts related to table tennis decreased significantly to only 9, marking a 53% decline from Q4 2024.
Events in Europe and North America accounted for over half of all alerts, with 32 alerts reported in these regions. However, this number actually decreased by 29% from the previous quarter.
Consistent Results and Future Initiatives
IBIA CEO Khalid Ali stated that the results for Q1 2025 were relatively consistent with the previous quarters. He emphasized the ongoing challenges posed by soccer and tennis in terms of match-fixing. However, the number of tennis alerts has shown a significant decrease compared to previous years.
Ali mentioned that IBIA remains cautious about tennis due to its historical ties to fraud and match-fixing. The organization has also formed new partnerships to further reduce the number of alerts in the future.
Technological Upgrades
In addition to the report findings, IBIA recently implemented a major technological upgrade to enhance its ability to detect and flag potential cases of match-fixing. This upgrade is expected to strengthen IBIA’s integrity monitoring efforts and protect the integrity of sports betting.
