As legislative sessions unfold across the United States, many states are looking to expand their gaming markets. While most states are focusing on enhancing existing gambling options, Georgia is taking a bold step by considering the legalization of casinos and sportsbooks.
The Push for Legalization
A group of four local senators, namely Billy Hickman, Brandon Beach, Carden Summers, and Lee Anderson, are championing Senate Resolution 131. This proposal seeks to introduce crucial constitutional amendments that could pave the way for legal gambling in the state.
If SR 131 is passed and voters approve the changes, the Georgia General Assembly will gain the authority to regulate casinos and sportsbooks, bringing the state in line with others that have already legalized such activities.

Should SR 131 come to fruition, Georgia is set to establish the Georgia Gaming Commission (GGC), responsible for overseeing the regulation of gaming activities. The resolution also plans to issue a minimum of eight casino licenses to operate within the state.

Under SR 131, operators will be subject to a 20% Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) tax, with the generated funds being directed towards state projects.
