Entain plc Surpasses Expectations in First Quarter of 2025
Entain plc, a leading global sports betting and gaming company listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol ENT, has reported impressive results for the first quarter of 2025. The company’s strong online growth and contributions from BetMGM have helped maintain positive momentum.
Exceptional Online Growth
During the three months ending on March 31, Entain saw a 9% year-over-year increase in total Group Net Gaming Revenue (NGR), or 11% on a constant currency basis. The company experienced significant growth in its online operations, with overall online NGR, including the U.S., rising by 12% or 15% on a constant currency basis.
Online revenue outside of the U.S. also performed well, increasing by 6%, or 10% on a constant currency basis. The UK & Ireland online segment stood out, surging by 23% on a constant currency basis. Brazil, another important market for the company, saw a 31% jump in NGR.
BetMGM exceeded expectations, with NGR increasing by 34% year-on-year on a constant currency basis and is on track to achieve EBITDA profitability in 2025.
Modest Retail Performance
Retail performance showed more modest growth at 2%, with softer UK gaming activity offset by better sports margins. International markets grew by 5%, with strong performances in Croatia and the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region, while Australia experienced an 8% decline due to favorable sports results for gamblers.
Looking ahead, Entain is maintaining its guidance of mid-single-digit online NGR growth for 2025 and remains confident in meeting market expectations for EBITDA. BetMGM aims to achieve revenue of $2.4–$2.5 billion for the year.
Stella David Appointed Permanent CEO
Stella David has been appointed as the permanent Chief Executive Officer of Entain. David, who has been serving as interim CEO since earlier this year, will now step into the role full-time. She replaces Gavin Isaacs, who resigned as CEO two months ago.
As a board member since 2021, David brings continuity and experience to her new role at a crucial time when the company is pursuing strategic goals. Commenting on the positive Q1 results, David described the start of the year as “strong”. She emphasized the company’s improved operational execution and clear momentum.
David expressed confidence in the company’s current momentum and underlying growth, stating that it will deliver quality and sustainable earnings with a clear pathway to generating over £0.5 billion of annual cash flow in the medium term.
She also expressed her excitement about leading the business as the CEO moving forward. With David at the helm, Entain looks to continue its growth trajectory and solidify its position as a global leader in the sports betting and gaming industry.
