Entain Faces Legal Pressure from Institutional Investors over Financial Market Matters
Entain, a prominent global betting company known for brands such as Ladbrokes and Coral, is currently under legal scrutiny from a group of major institutional investors. The lawsuit, filed with London’s High Court, is being spearheaded by U.S. law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and includes firms like Brown Brothers Harriman Trustee Services, State Street Bank and Trust Company, Northern Trust Company, and The Reliance Trust Company, acting as trustees for significant investment funds.
The legal action has been registered on the Financial List, a specialized division of the High Court that handles intricate financial cases. While specific details of the claim are not publicly disclosed at this time, it pertains to financial market matters.
A spokesperson for Entain confirmed the existence of the claim in a statement to City AM, mentioning that the company is aware of it but has not been formally served. The spokesperson emphasized that the matter is still “at a very early stage” and expressed Entain’s intention to vigorously defend against any legal proceedings.

This recent lawsuit is not the first legal challenge that Entain has faced. In August 2024, a group claim was initiated by Fox Williams following a significant drop in Entain’s share price in connection with a settlement with UK tax authorities.
The drop in share price came after Entain entered into a deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) with the Crown Prosecution Service over alleged historical misconduct related to its former Turkish business. The agreement, which stemmed from bribery investigations covering the period from July 2011 to December 2017, resulted in Entain paying out a total of £615 million, including penalties, profit disgorgement, charitable donations, and legal fees.
